The Maasai Rose Flower

The Maasai are among the most popular ethnic groups in Africa. They have received  international recognition, over the years, because of their dress code(shuka) and distinctive customs. The Nilotic group, occupies the southern, central and northern parts of Kenya. They also occupy Northern Tanzania. During the early centuries ,they were known to be fearless hunters and warriors. The "Maa people",as they are often referred ,have over the years  earned their(majority of them) livelihood as herdsmen.

In Kenya, they were among those communities that didn't resist the regime of the white man. They readily accepted and collaborated with the foreigners. Even for the early explorers and visitors, who set their feet on the Maasai soil, the Maa people were so welcoming. Articles and manuscripts have been written of their hospitality. All these factual theories remained theories ,throughout my primary and secondary school, till I met "The Massai Rose Flower" at the tertiary level.

She came to our hostels residence, located outside the University compound, as a new tenant. She had just enrolled at the main campus. Pretty and smiley. Less talkative. Light skinned .Tall and charming. And not to forget her long lovely hair. We had  received a new and rare gem-a Maasai Rose Flower. That was my new neighbor-the girl next door. Being a social guy, I boldly did pull up to her place. At first, she was very rough ,probably because of  stories about campus guys and how unruly they can get(as she confesses later ).I had to retreat that day. I had come in peace. So,i left in peace.

We later on, get along pretty well. What a big heart hidden under a calm  countenance, and yet pretty and fancied!!!Beautiful as a rose flower. Her pretty face and height had attracted me because of my love for lenses and virtual storytelling blended with my passion for culture know-how. To make it even more interesting , hailing from the most celebrated Kenyan cultures. I had to work on this and bring out the best of us. I enrolled her for my photography  projects(http://fb.me/fancyartkenya) under Jaymax Adventures . That is how I landed my first fashion photography model.

Afterwards, she often accompanied me for my photography classes and photo sessions .She accompanied me for Jaymax charity projects. ( https://www.facebook.com/Heart-To-Vulnerable-children-102312424786970/ ) That is how she landed her brand name-The Maasai Rose Flower. An aspiring model,a friend and sister .A co-worker. It is always a great time together .Cheers to more years of friendship and our passion-chase. And by the way, she is still looking for well wishers to help finance her campaign to help vulnerable groups and families among the Maasai community. If you are willing to support us, kindly email us or send us a message. Ours is more than a friendship. It is a life of inspiration.

This article is meant to appreciate the Maasai girls and women and even more importantly it is a call to appreciate our diversity as a people. Diversity is beautiful. It is what keeps us unique. And that which makes us unique, makes us special. It is right this way.

True friendship is built on honesty, sincerity and integrity. That has kept us glued together and we are still growing. "The Maasai Rose Flower" story has been and it is still such an inspiration to me and to many .Blessings. It has been penned .It is right this way. I had still buy her a rose flower for a present-appreciating her for being her.
